The future is here, as predicted by Back to the Future II.

YESTERDAY, ON BACK to the Future Day, we asked if Back to the Future II had gotten anything right about the future.

We have hoverboards (sort of), video calling, and flat screen TVs – and now, Nike has confirmed that the runners of the future are actually here.

Back in 2011, Nike auctioned off over a thousand pairs of Mags, minus the power laces, but now we’ve got the real, self-lacing deal.

People began to suspect something was up when Nike sent this cryptic tweet on the night of October 20:

And last night, Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) confirmed the news himself, sharing a letter from the designer of the Nike Air Mag, Tinker Hatfield.

Almost thirty years ago, we embarked on a journey to create a glimpse into ‘the future’. Although the project started as science fiction, we’re now proud to turn that fiction into fact. As the first, most celebrated wearer of the Nike Air Mag, we wanted you to be the first to receive a living pair.

And sure enough, he was.

According to Metro, the self-lacing Mags will be auctioned off on eBay in the spring of 2016, with all proceeds going to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
